I recently had the pleasure of joining Elaine Starling on The Abundance Journey Podcast for a thoughtful conversation about a topic that has become my life’s work: helping women build strength, confidence, and vitality as they age.
The episode, Inner and Outer Strength, explores the powerful connection between physical strength and emotional well-being. While many people think of strength training as simply a way to improve fitness, I believe it is one of the most effective tools we have for maintaining independence, confidence, and quality of life throughout the years.
Strength Is About More Than Muscles
As women enter their 50s, 60s, and beyond, they often receive messages that aging means slowing down, becoming weaker, and accepting limitations. Yet the reality is very different.
Research continues to show that strength training can help improve mobility, balance, bone health, energy levels, and overall resilience. Just as importantly, becoming physically stronger often creates a profound shift in how we see ourselves.
When you discover that you can lift heavier weights, walk farther, recover more quickly, or move with greater confidence, something changes internally as well. You begin to trust your body’s capabilities and feel more empowered in your daily life.
The Connection Between Inner and Outer Strength
During my conversation with Elaine, we discussed how physical strength and emotional strength reinforce one another.
Building strength requires consistency, patience, and perseverance. Every workout is an opportunity to practice showing up for yourself, even when motivation is low. Over time, these small acts of commitment build confidence that extends far beyond the gym.
Many women tell me that after starting a strength-training programme, they not only feel stronger physically but also become more confident in other areas of life. They are more willing to try new things, set boundaries, pursue goals, and embrace new opportunities.
That is the true power of strength. It changes how you experience life.
It’s Never Too Late to Start
One of the most important messages I hope listeners take away from this episode is that it is never too late to become stronger.
Whether you are new to exercise or returning after a long break, your body can adapt and improve at any age. Small, consistent steps can lead to meaningful changes in strength, balance, energy, and overall well-being.
You do not need to become an athlete. You simply need to begin where you are and continue moving forward.
